Fires Again at new wing of the Taj hotel in Mumbai

A fire broke out between the 20 and 21st floor of the Taj Hotel's new building in south Mumbai early on Tuesday.

Fire officials here said the building, one of the sites of the November 26 terror attacks, was empty when the incident happened.

There are no casualty reports in the incident and though the cause of the fire is still unknown, unofficial sources attributed it to faulty wiring.

RBI reduces repo, reverse repo rates by 100 bps

Buoyed by easing inflation, the RBI on Saturday announced further measures, including a one percentage point cut in the short term rates at which it lends and borrows from banks, in a clear signal to ease interest rates.

Besides, the apex bank also pumped in Rs 11,000 crore in Small Industries Development Bank of India and National Housing Bank to give a fillip to realty and small and medium sectors.

The short-term lending rate (repo) will fall to 6.5 per cent and borrowing (reverse repo) rate to 5 per cent with effect from December 8.

The primary liquidity made available to the system through these measures is worth over Rs 3,00,000 crore, RBI Governor D Subbarao said in New Delhi.

RBI also allowed select banks to buyback foreign currency convertible bonds from customers to "take advantage of current discounted rate at which these bonds are trading."

Announcing the fresh measures, Subbarao said that "taken together with earlier measures, these would step up demand and arrest the growth moderation."

He was also confident that the government's decision to lower petrol and diesel prices would further ease inflation.

The cut in the repo/reverse repo rates, he said, "should result in a reduction in the marginal cost of funds to banks and enable them to improve the flow of credit to productive sectors of the economy on viable terms."

The government has deferred by a day the announcement of the Rs 17,000-crore stimulus package to buoy the realty, exports, infrastructure and auto sectors, which it was expected to make public today immediately after the RBI measures.

The liquidity support given to SIDBI, RBI said, would alleviate the credit stress being faced by the micro and small enterprises and "should revive activity in these employment-intensive drivers of growth".

The facility of premature buyback of FCCBs, he added, will help Indian companies to take advantage of the discounted rates at which these instruments are trading.

Similarly, the RBI governor said the special dispensation for treating loans to Housing Finance Companies as priority sector lending will increase the flow of funds to the housing sectors.

Referring to the RBI's decision to permit banks to restructure loans given to the real estate sector, Subbarao said, "It will help soften pressures being faced by the commercial real estate sector and other sectors in the current environment."

As per the proposal, the concessional treatment facility with regard to the classification of assets by the banks will be extended to the real estate sector for loans that are restructured till June 2009.

The RBI chief further said that the benefit of the concessional rate of interest for exporters up to 180 days "is intended to benefit exporters who have drawn bills for shorter maturities and are facing difficulties in realising the bills on due dates on account of external problems".

Given the uncertain outlook on the global crisis, Subbarao said, "Reserve Bank will continue to closely monitor the developments in the global and domestic financial markets and will take swift and effective action as appropriate."

Noting that period of painful adjustment is inevitable, he said, "RBI's policy endeavour will be to minimise the negative impact of the crisis and to ensure an orderly adjustment."

The central bank, Subbarao said, will try to maintain "a comfortable liquidity position, see that the weighted average overnight money market is maintained with the repo-reverse repo corridor and ensure conditions conducive for flow of credit to productive sectors, particularly the stressed export and small and medium industry sectors."

Nagachaitanya who was the cynosure at Nagarjuna’s KING audio function on Sunday admitted that the fans of his father and his Mama Venky made him choose the acting profession. TERROR ATTACKS IN MUMBAI

20 killed, 348 injured as gunmen target rail terminus, luxury hotels; 40 taken hostage
Terror strikes yet again: A man injured in a terror attack being carried to hospital in Mumbai on Wednesday, when gunmen opened fire at seven places.
MUMBAI: The city witnessed a major terror strike on Wednesday with explosions and firing reported from several places. Reports said 20 people were killed and 348 injured. Unconfirmed reports put the death toll at 60.
Maharashtra Director-General of Police A.N. Roy confirmed that there were seven attacks, three of them encounters.
A.K. Sharma, Railway Police Commissioner, said two or three persons, carrying AK 47 rifles and grenades entered the Chattrapati Shivaji Terminus with AK 47 rifles at 8.35 p.m. and opened fire indiscriminately and the panic-struck people rushed out. He said 10 people were feared dead and 30 injured. “The situation is still not resolved. However, there has been no firing for the last 45 minutes,” Mr. Sharma said.
Eyewitnesses, who claim to have seen at least one person dead, said two gunmen fired several shots and then rushed out of the station towards the Special Branch Office.
Rakesh, who had come with his wife and child to board a long distance train, said he heard shots and saw many people with blood stains on them. He rushed out with his family and took refuge in a building opposite the station.
The entire area has been cordoned off and no vehicles were allowed near the station. Commandos and special police teams were trying to get the situation under control. Random shots were still heard from the station at the time of our going to press.

Sunil Babbar, a policeman of the MRA station close to the CST station, was returning home when he was summoned back. He tried to enter the station but heard two explosions and immediately rushed out to get police reinforcements.
Many of the injured have been rushed to nearby hospitals. Several blasts were reported across the city from places in South Mumbai and suburbs such as Vile Parle.
Two low-intensity explosions and firing were reported outside The Trident Hotel. Forty people were taken hostage inside the hotel, even as occupants and staff were being evacuated. At 11.15 p.m., the firing had not stopped and smoke was billowing from the hotel lobby. A constable on the spot said a third blast took place in the hotel lobby. He said commandos had gone inside. A police officer said two persons were injured. They were taken to hospital.
Firing was also reported outside Leopold Café at Colaba. Windscreens of cars were shattered and bloodstains seen all over.
Sheikh Pasah, an eyewitness, said: “I was on the other side of the road, going to have dinner when I saw people firing. Then I saw a girl drop on the road. They fired from outside and then went inside and opened fire. They were carrying long rifles, [probably] AK 47.” Mumbai Police Commissioner Hasan Gafoor said the police operation was still on.

Uday is keen to join TDP party

Actor Uday Kiran is marching his way towards the TDP party and may join it in the 1st week of December. According to sources, it is reported that the young actor got a formal invitation from Junior NTR on Sunday and that too on the recommendation of Nara Chandra Babu. It is said that though, Uday is having a dim phase of film career he can easily attract the young girls of Coastal Andhra.

Uday had two recent releases and out of them Gundhe Jhalumandi has finally eased him out of the flop hero category. Now he is standing in between the super hit stars like Mahesh and Junior NTR and the flop stars like Tarun and Nithin.

Jayasudha, who till date has maintained her respect in the Telugu film industry has finally joined Congress yesterday with Chief Minister felicitating her with the congress Kandava. Jayasudha stated that Dr. Rajsheker reddy was the only man who fulfilled his promises after elections and so she desires to stick with him in the coming election.

Jayasudha also cleared that air that she is not going to comment on megastar like the others (Roja, Vijayashanti and Jeevitha) and said that her motive will be to reach out to the public needs and satisfy them.

Pavan Kalyan’s Komuram PULI is out on a foreign trip to Malaysia and its surroundings. According to the unit sources, Pawan Kalyan and his heroine are going to romance in Malaysia from this coming Friday and so the entire unit comprising of only 9 members including Pawan, left for the scenic locales on Wednesday .

Surya S/O Krishnan is an emblematic Gautham Menon film which appears to be pretty close to his factual life along with a message at the conclusion. The movie has a two hour 48 minutes extensive heavy sentiment drama and has all the ingredients of anecdote, love, comedy and at last promotes non- smoking deeply, as it gives a hard slap to all the smokers who can face the cruel outcome of dreaded disease Cancer. Surya is outstanding and Simran pilfers the show with her outstanding acting skills.

Story

Surya (Junior Surya), son of Krishnan is a sensitively bonded guy with his parents as well as his sister. He grows up seeing his parent’s enormous love en route for each other and the fervor towards their son and daughter. The dissimilar phases of life, are well portrayed in this film as the child, teenage life, adulthood in a man’s world are well exemplified. Surya is intimately close to his father and Simran who plays the character of mother to him, motivates him for being strappingly will- powered and also to be psychologically weak sometimes.

Krishnan (Senior Surya) is Surya’s Father who is a middle class man and ventures out to USA in order to fetch his true love Simran. They marry and are proud parents of two siblings. Surya and his sister as told earlier get the inspiration and lesson from their parents that nothing is impossible in this world if your allegiance and the sacredness in heart are well pure.
With these values, Junior Surya gets into his adult hood with a brief love phase in his life. He falls in love with Meghna (Sameera reddy) but the love ends as soon as it is started as Meghna decides to part her ways in order to pursue her professional dreams. She prefers to chase her dreams rather than accompanying Surya. Moved by this Surya regrets to be in love with Meghna and desires for a beloved who is in lines of his mother Malini (Simran).

Surya fetches a defense cop profession and is posted somewhere in Jammu and Kashmir. After a few reels of regular kidnapping and goon bashing drama, Surya’s heroic skills are well expressed. Unluckily, he is informed about his father Krishnan’s illness of cancer and leaves the base camp, to be with his family.

He immediately packs and moves to his family and realizes that his father Krishnan is ill and his mother Malini is shaken by this incident. But again, Krishnan inspires his son by his strong will power and determination to invade out through his illness.

Then Surya’s wife Priya (Divya Spandana) enters his life and they marry happily. But Krishnan’s illness deepens day by day and this makes him close to his grave. In a scene which is heart touching, where he tries hard to express something to his grandson, but fails to do as his Vocal Cords fail indicating the last stages of life.

The complete movie is crammed with emotion and love towards a family. Furthermore the movie is loaded with a poignant drama in all scenes.

Lastly, the movie tops with an acceptable climax plus this is a anticipation which must be seen on the big screen.

Performances

Surya Siva Kumar plays the dual role of Krishnan and Surya in this film. The actor doesn’t need a certificate for his acting as he has immense talent. The senior Surya looks more promising with his make up and depicts a perfect middle aged person with lots of experience to reveal. Junior Surya plays the role of an obedient son to his father and is tinged with some love, romance and mother sentiment from the female characters.

Simran plays the character of Malini who is a Pativratha to Krishnan. She plays the role with ease and takes on the limelight of this film.

Priya is the character played by Divya Spandana. The character demands some love, attitude and also sometimes emotions and Divya Justifies her character as a wife to Surya.

Sameera Reddy enters the life of the hero like a breeze and plays the character of Meghna. She moves around the trees with the hero and finally departs.
On the total, the movie is exceedingly sloppy drama which has zero for the mass crowds. The movie will without doubt hit the 50 day mark, due to its touching story. But fall apart after the 50 day mark.

Congress buyed Nagarjuna for more then 500 cores

Nagarjuna who is making all arrangements for his next movie’s KING’S audio release on November 23rd is irritated by the media gossips. He recently gave an explanation for his support to congress party and said that he likes the policies of the Congress government and so is supporting and campaigning for it.

Meanwhile, his son’s next movie which is based on the film story of Bollywood film JOSH which featured Shaharukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai as brother and sisters is taking its shape in Hyderabad. The 10 second promos of Naga Chaitanya’s film will be shown on the audio release function of Nagarjuna’s KING, which will be organized at Gachi Bowli Stadium. The poster promotion will be done from November 29th which happens to be the day, when Naga Chaitanya was born.

Coming to Nag’s political entry, it is a fact now that he has been lured with a 100 crores money package and in addition to this a mega project which is to extend Annapurna Studios into a mega film valley which will have a world class entertainment zone such as Film studio, animation institute, resort and many more. The project which is sketched in and around Banjara Hills in Hyderabad will be in 25 acres land and will cost almost 460 crores totally. The government has approved this project and it may take its shape from mid 2009.
